The Reveal: 5 Top Watches from SIHH 2015
Luxury watch collectors and enthusiasts of horology will have heard about the 25th Annual Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) which took place between January 19th and 23rd. This yearly event showcases the magic of watchmaking, from the newest innovations in technology, to the beauty of craftsmanship in each timepiece produced by the exhibiting Maisons.
The annual watch show in Geneva offers the chance for the world to “admire the inventiveness as well as the classicism which the Maisons instil into even the most complex horological functions. The SIHH is the pulse of the watchmaking profession, and as always when emotion is at its height, this pulse beats stronger than ever,” said Fabienne Lupo, the Chairwoman and Managing Director of the Foundation de la Haute Horlogerie.
A total of 16 of the finest Maisons and Swiss watch brands showcased their timepieces at the event, and we selected 5 top watches that we admire from SIHH 2015…
1. Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider with Double Flying Tourbillon
This watch is as technically inspiring as it is an exceptional work of timepiece craftsmanship. Roger Dubuis’ trademark starred bridges are featured, and the distinct skeletonized dial reveals the iconic double Flying Tourbillon. The inner bezel ring has vivid red to contrast beautifully against the DLC-finished black titanium case.
2. Roger Dubuis Excalibur Automatic Skeleton
A fresh, new timepiece design from Roger Dubuis is the Excalibur Automatic Skeleton watch. Unlike all of its skeletonized movements in watch designs of the past, this new timepiece does not have a tourbillon. This particular watch has an automatic micro-rotor, and because it does not have the delicate tourbillon, is suitable for more frequent wear. The timepiece is available in black titanium or 18k rose gold.
3. A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater
A classical, yet contemporary design style makes the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater watch by A. Lange & Söhne a timeless attribute to any luxury watch collection. A subsidiary seconds dial and power reserve indicator contrast interestingly with the timepieces digital time display. This new version for 2015 has a 36-hour power reserve, a caliber L043.5, and even has a setting to chime the time.
4. Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grand Tradition Grand Complication
It is a magnificent timepiece with doubly grand appeal. The Master Grand Tradition Grand Complication watch showcased at SIHH 2015 by Jaeger-LeCoultre is a piece of true excellence in horology. It contains the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 945 with a German-silver-plated movement. The tourbillon oscillates as usual, while also making a full daily rotation around the dial in accordance with sidereal time. The exceptional minute repeater invokes Jaeger-LeCoultre’s notable crystal gong system to give off the best chime sound.
5. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 41mm
Although this particular timepiece is just a line extension and larger size of the watch debuted in 2012, this Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 41mm watch is still impressive. It is the very first two-tone steel and 18k rose gold watch in the Royal Oak line from Audemars Piguet. It features rose gold bracelet links and bezel with the steel case and bracelet.
