In a notable horology event, Leroy received acclaim as the winner of the 2013 International Chronometry Contest for the “Tourbillon” category.
The Leroy Osmior Tourbillon Régulateur Automatique watch was the winning timepiece in the contest, which was conducted last fall. The watch won 794 of the 1,000 possible points to win the first place prize in the tourbillon category.
The International Chronometry Contest was re-launched in 2009, and the 2013 contest was its third organization since 2009. It commenced on May 30th, 2013 with 30 participants who submitted 38 watches in three categories: tourbillon, classic watches and watches created by schools. The contest tests all timepieces for three demanding chronometric tests. Only 12 out of the 20 ‘classic’ watches passed the tests, and Leroy’s Osmior Tourbillon timepiece was the only one to pass all of the tests to endure in the tourbillon category.
“You have to pass all three 15-day tests just to finish. To use Formula One as an analogy, we can say that the watches have to take part in three grand prix races in a row without a pit stop! Under such conditions, a podium finish is an even more remarkable feat”, said Claude-Henri Chabloz, President of the International Chronometry Competition.
This is a celebrated, distinguished win for Leroy, and shines the spotlight on their exceptional design and manufacturing in watchmaking.
A key feature in their production process is that Leroy is a vertically integrated manufacturer. From development to production, Leroy has strengthened its exclusive position as a premier watchmaker. At their Vallée de Joux facility in France, they have solidified their vertical supply chain for all of the manufactured components, balance-springs, and escapements of their pristine luxury timepieces. This is an extremely rare manufacturing structure in the world of watchmaking, and goes to show Leroy’s dedication to high-end micro technological production for every timepiece from their house.
